Barranco, down the bajada.

Lima’s bohemian district descends to the Pacific through a ravine of bougainvillea and old ficus. Three picks either side of the Bridge of Sighs.

By

Barranco’s Bajada de Baños is the old fishermen’s path to the sea — a cobbled ravine walk under ficus and bougainvillea, crossed overhead by the Puente de los Suspiros. Lima’s garúa mist does most of the cooling for half the year; in the clear summer months (January–March) the ravine’s green walls and the ocean breeze take over.

These picks run the ravine, the plaza’s giant ficus, and the clifftop malecón north toward Miraflores. The murals en route are a supporting exhibition.
