The Gaslamp Quarter’s 16 blocks of Victorian commercial buildings retain their original awning lines — and the restaurants have doubled down with patio canopies that functionally roof the sidewalk on Fifth Avenue. Even in the marine-layer-free afternoons of September, the west side of Fifth stays walkable.
East Village adds the new Makers Quarter shade structures and the ballpark’s concourse shadow. These three stitch both together.
South on Fifth under the awning line, then the Gaslamp bridge over Harbor Drive.
Around the ballpark’s eastern concourse shadow, then north under the East Village shade sails.
North on Kettner under the mid-rise shadow line; the India Street ficus canopy takes the last blocks.
