The shadiest brunch walks in the West Village

Five sub-mile loops through Manhattan’s most reliably shaded block grid — picked for 11 AM to 2 PM, when the sun is sharpest.

By

The West Village’s narrow east–west streets and pre-war buildings create some of Manhattan’s most reliably shaded walking corridors. Between 11 AM and 2 PM — peak brunch shoulder — the buildings on 4th, Bleecker, and Bank do almost all the work. You barely have to cross.

These five picks all clear 80% shaded coverage at noon. Each is under a mile so the walk-to-brunch never exceeds the brunch wait. Tap any pick to open the route in Stay Cool — we’ll re-shade it against the current sun position when you go.
