Echo Park, lotus side.

Echo Park Lake keeps its 1920s palm ring and lotus bed, and the stair-street hills behind it stay cool in the canyon folds. Three picks east of the reservoir.

By

Echo Park Lake’s palm ring reads as decoration but works as architecture — the west-bank path gets continuous palm-and-fig shade through the afternoon, and the lotus bed cools the air off the water. Behind the lake, the stair streets of the Echo Park hills thread canyon folds that hold morning coolness long after the boulevards give it up.

These picks circle the lake and climb the best of the stairs. Sunset Boulevard’s awning row does the retail connector.
