Koreatown, between the highrises.

Koreatown’s grid is the densest in LA outside downtown. The Mid-Wilshire highrises throw the heaviest building shadow in the basin. Three picks for the cool half of the block.

Wilshire Boulevard between Western and Vermont is a canyon — pre-war office towers on both sides, with the cardinal axis aligning shadows along the southern sidewalk from noon to 4 PM. Stay Cool routes you onto that sidewalk reflexively in summer; the difference vs. the north side is real and continuous.

These picks combine the Wilshire corridor with the K-Town interior streets (6th, 7th, 8th) where awnings, courtyard buildings, and ficus do triple duty.
