Larchmont, in the sycamore.

Larchmont Boulevard’s mature California sycamores hit canopy density rare in central LA. Three picks for the village blocks and the residential streets just east.

By

Larchmont Boulevard runs four blocks of low-rise commercial under a continuous California sycamore canopy. The trees are 70 years old and at full canopy density they cover both sidewalks edge-to-edge from 10 AM until 5 PM. Combined with the residential blocks east (in Hancock Park) and the awning patios on the Boulevard itself, the village is one of central LA’s most reliably cool walks.

These three pair the Boulevard with the residential approaches. Stay Cool routes you east of Larchmont onto Norton or Lucerne when the sun crosses 45° — the residential streets are even deeper canopy.
